DokiDoki Fursuit Care
Keep Your Character Fresh, Fluffy & Ready to Wear
A practical care guide for everyday wear, light cleaning, drying and storage. Because every handmade suit is different, always follow the care instructions supplied with your specific piece first.
Before you clean: Check the instructions that came with your fursuit. Construction, airbrushing, electronics, removable parts and decorative details can change what is safe. If anything is unclear, contact DokiDoki before washing.
After Every Wear
A few minutes of care after wearing can prevent a small issue from becoming a bigger cleaning job. Start as soon as you take the suit off, especially after a warm event or an active photo session.
1. Air it outPlace damp pieces in a clean, ventilated area. Do not seal them in a case or storage bin while moisture remains.
2. Check each pieceLook for surface dirt, damp lining, tangled fur or loose details while the wear session is still fresh in your mind.
3. Brush gentlyWhen the fur is dry, use a suitable brush with light strokes and work in the direction of the pile. Support delicate areas with your free hand.
4. Store only when dryConfirm the lining, seams and dense fur feel fully dry before packing anything away.
Choose the Lightest Cleaning Method That Works
Not every wear requires a full wash. Begin with the least intensive method suitable for the problem, and keep liquids away from components that have not been confirmed as washable.
Light surface dirt
- Remove loose debris carefully before adding moisture.
- Test any cleaner on a small, hidden area first.
- Blot rather than aggressively rubbing the fur.
- Keep the cleaned area ventilated until completely dry.
When deeper cleaning may be needed
- The lining remains noticeably soiled after normal post-wear care.
- A larger area has been affected by a spill or outdoor use.
- Several wear sessions have passed and your supplied care instructions recommend cleaning.
- DokiDoki or the original maker confirms the appropriate method for that piece.
Do
- Separate removable pieces when instructed.
- Protect the shape of heads, ears and sculpted details.
- Use cool or lukewarm conditions only when approved.
- Allow generous drying time before the next wear.
Avoid
- Assuming every piece is machine washable.
- Soaking a head or electronic component without approval.
- Using high heat, harsh chemicals or aggressive scrubbing.
- Storing a piece to “finish drying” inside a closed container.
Care by Fursuit Part
Head
Prioritize ventilation and shape protection. Wipe only confirmed-safe surfaces, avoid saturating unverified internal structures, and never use heat to rush drying.
Hand Paws
Check pads, claws and decorative details before cleaning. Treat the lining and outer fur according to the instructions supplied for that pair.
Feet Paws
Remove dry surface dirt first and inspect the soles after outdoor wear. Do not assume internal footwear or shaped components can be submerged.
Tail & Bodysuit
Confirm whether padding or inserts are removable and follow the product-specific method. Keep long fur supported and untangled during handling and drying.
Drying & Storage
Drying is part of cleaning, not an optional final step. Give every piece enough open-air time and check dense areas, lining and seams before storage.
- Use a clean, ventilated location away from direct heat.
- Position pieces so air can reach damp linings and dense fur.
- Keep the head supported without crushing the muzzle, ears or hairstyle.
- Store paws and tails without heavy objects pressing on them.
- Choose a dry storage area away from prolonged sunlight and moisture.
- Use a clean transport bag for travel, then unpack promptly after the event.
If Something Goes Wrong
For a spill, unexpected stain, loose decoration or persistent dampness, pause before trying a stronger cleaner or repair. Photograph the affected area, note what happened and check the original care information. DokiDoki can give more useful support when the exact piece and issue are clear.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I machine wash my fursuit?
Only if the instructions for that exact piece confirm it. Heads, padding, airbrushed areas, electronics and structured components may require different care.
Can I use a hair dryer?
Avoid high heat. Use the drying method supplied with your piece, and ask before applying heated air to faux fur, adhesives or shaped components.
How often should I clean it?
There is no single schedule for every wearer or suit. Consider wear time, activity, environment and the instructions supplied for each component. Airing out and checking the suit after every wear makes the decision easier.
What if I am unsure?
Stop before using an unfamiliar product or method. Send DokiDoki a photo of the piece and describe the issue so the team can help you choose a safer next step.
